Avianca August Passenger Numbers Rise 4% From Year Earlier

Avianca (AVH), a Panama-based airline operator, said it transported 2,680,551 passengers in August, 4% more than a year earlier.

Capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASKs) increased 6.4%, while passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), increased 7.7%.

The load factor for the month was 84.4%, an increase of 105 basis points compared with the same period of 2016.

In Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, the company’s domestic markets, the passenger count rose 1.8% Capacity in ASKs fell 2.3% while passenger traffic in RPKs increased 1.9%. The load factor for the month was 85.5%, an increase of 352 basis points compared to the same period of 2016.

On international routes, the company carried 7.2% more passengers than a year earlier. Compared Capacity in ASKs increased 8.6%, while passenger traffic in RPKs increased 9.2%. The load factor for the month was 84.2%, an increase of 44 basis points from a year earlier.

The American depositary shares were marginally lower on Tuesday morning.
